Cloud Retailer POS Upgrade Fails to Install

Modified on Thu, 29 Aug at 3:52 PM

Overview

When you go to install a version of the Cloud Retailer POS, there are times where windows update or other software updates are pending a reboot of your computer.  In this situations, Cloud Retailer POS will fail to install.  You'll see the installer nearly finish and then at the end roll back.

Procedure

Here are a few things to try:

1)  Make sure any pending windows updates have finished

2)  Make sure you're logged in as the user that originally installed Cloud Retailer POS.  Typically this is an admin type user and the current user may not have permissions to access the local database for security reasons.

You can also find verbose logging as it relates to installers here:
C:\Users\<<LoggedInUser>>\AppData\Local\Temp

Look for a file with a name like Cloud_Retailer_POS_

Errors can include ox84be0bc2 (SQL cannot install due to pending Windows updates - typically)

3) I encountered this error when installing Version 4.6..47.27. The Redistributable 2017 is not installing automatically.

Download link

a. Sign in as Rite/Admin account then please try to download and intall the Redistributable 2017 then install the CR POS installer. If it still failed proceed to step b.

b. Extract the SQL 2019 installer from the CR POS installer by browsing a different location path to save the SQL 2019 installer, run the SQL 2019 then upgrade the SQL 2014, then restart and install the CR POS.

SQL won't uninstall and it is interrupting the CR installation:

Sometimes the installer will get stuck on installing SQL. When this happens, you will want to check for older versions of SQL on the machine. In my experience, this is a problem specifically with SQL 2014, and can be resolved by following the uninstallation process here:

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/1491977/warning-26003-support-files-can-not-uninstalled

After you have deleted the registry keys from the article above, try to uninstall each instance of SQL 2014 again. Once finished, the installer should work.
